BIRD COLOURS
The colour descriptions of birds have been re-ordered in a colour system, generally beginning with parts of the head which can include crest, bill, forehead, crown, nape, face, brow patch, eye, ear patch, cheek patch, chin, and throat; parts above: back, wings, underwings, rump, tail; and parts below: breast, sides, flanks, abdomen, vent, and legs. A template is devised which encompasses all the coloured parts mentioned for a particular species. The number, order and proportions of the sections of the colour templates are consistent within each species, but vary between species.
